Ecommerce marketer comparing AI video tool credit costs against finished vertical ads

Short answer: on a subscription, Kling is cheaper at every tier once you compare the price you actually pay from month two: $8.80 against $10.50 at entry, $159.99 against $216 at the top, and $6.60 against $8.40 a month on yearly billing. On the API it flips. Hailuo lets you pay as you go and a 6 second 1080p clip costs $0.33 to $0.49, while Kling's API starts with a $700 prepaid package that expires in 180 days. For ad work the deciding limit is length: Hailuo stops 1080p at 6 seconds, Kling does not.

Both price lists were read at the vendors: Kling's membership page on October 15, 2026 and Hailuo's plan page plus the MiniMax developer rate card on October 14, 2026. Several of the pages ranking for this comparison still quote Hailuo's old $7.99, $27.99 and $63.99 promo prices, and some say Kling is free to $75 a month. Neither is what either vendor charges today.

Kling vs Hailuo pricing at a glance

Kling shows three prices on each monthly card: a crossed-out list price, a first-month deal and a smaller "then" price you pay from the second bill. Hailuo shows a crossed-out list price and the price it charges. The table uses only what your card is charged after the first month.

TopUltra $159.99 ($127.99 first month)$119.1726,000Max $216$18427,000 plus unlimited in a slow queue

Two things the sticker hides. Kling's first-month price is a one-time offer, so a $6.99 trial is really a commitment to $8.80. And the per-100-credit rate printed on each Kling card is worked out from that first-month price, so renewal credits cost about 25 percent more than the card says. Hailuo has its own version of this: the "-47%" badge on its yearly toggle is measured against list prices nobody pays, and the real yearly saving is 20 percent (15 percent on Max). Kling's yearly saving against the real renewal price is about 25 percent.

Is Kling cheaper than Hailuo?

On the plan price, yes, at every tier and on both billing cycles. Kling Pro on yearly billing is $24.42 a month against $30.40 for Hailuo Pro, and Ultra is $119.17 against $184 for Max. What you cannot do is compare credits one to one, because a Kling credit and a Hailuo credit buy different amounts of video. Hailuo publishes a per-clip credit table. Kling does not, and shows the cost of each generation in the app before you run it.

Hailuo's published rates on Hailuo 2.3 are 25 credits for a 6 second 768p clip, 80 for a 6 second 1080p clip and 50 for a 10 second 768p clip. On Pro yearly that puts a 6 second 768p clip at about $0.17 and a 6 second 1080p clip at about $0.54. To get the same kind of number for Kling you have to read it off the app for your model and settings, or use the API rate card below, which is the only place Kling prices video per second in public.

Kling vs Hailuo API pricing per clip

This is where a real like-for-like comparison is possible, because both vendors publish dollar prices. Kling bills per second of output from prepaid units. MiniMax, the company behind Hailuo, bills per clip.

Kling figures are its developer rate card multiplied out: $0.042 and $0.07 a second for Kling 2.6 without native audio at 720p and 1080p, $0.084 and $0.112 for Kling 3.0. Adding Kling's native audio raises the 3.0 rate to $0.126 and $0.168 a second. Hailuo's are MiniMax's per-clip prices.

Per clip, Hailuo 2.3-Fast is the cheapest option on the table at both resolutions it supports, and Kling 2.6 is close behind. The bigger difference is the door price. If you are testing a handful of concepts, $700 of Kling units that vanish after six months is a lot of money to strand. Before you commit to a prepaid package or a yearly plan on either side, it is worth checking it against your cash forecast for the next two quarters, because neither vendor refunds unused credit.

What does a 30 second ad cost on Kling vs Hailuo?

A 30 second spot is about five 6 second shots, or three 10 second ones. In real creative work each shot gets rendered around three times before one is usable, which is our working assumption rather than a vendor figure. So budget roughly 90 seconds of generated footage per finished ad.

How you pay30s ad at 720p or 768p30s ad at 1080p
Hailuo API, 2.3-Fast (15 six second clips)$2.85$4.95
Kling API, 2.6, no audio (90 seconds)$3.78$6.30
Hailuo API, 2.3 (15 six second clips)$4.20$7.35
Hailuo Pro, yearly plan credits$2.53$8.11
Kling API, 3.0, no audio (90 seconds)$7.56$10.08
Kling API, 3.0, native audio (90 seconds)$11.34$15.12

Three to fifteen dollars of model time per ad is cheap either way. The gap that matters for advertisers is structural. A Hailuo 1080p ad has to be cut from 6 second shots, because 10 second clips only exist at 768p. Kling renders 10 seconds at 1080p and up to 4K on a subscription, and its 3.0 models can generate audio with the picture. For a vertical ad where one talking shot runs longer than six seconds, that alone can decide it.

Which is better for ecommerce video ads, Kling or Hailuo?

Pick Hailuo if you want the cheapest per-clip API with no minimum spend, you are happy cutting 6 second shots, and you want a published credit table so you can plan a month in advance. Hailuo Pro on yearly billing is one of the lowest per-clip prices in the category at 768p.

Pick Kling if you need longer 1080p shots, 4K, or native audio, and you will stay past the first month. Yearly Kling is the cheaper subscription at every tier, and Ultra yearly at $0.46 per 100 credits is the cheapest credit Kling sells. Avoid the API unless you can use $700 of units inside six months.

Watch the expiry rules on both. Kling's monthly credits die 31 days after they are issued and purchased packs last two years. Hailuo's plan credits last one month and its top-ups run to December 31 of the second calendar year after purchase. Hailuo refunds nothing, so test one monthly cycle before paying for a year. Full detail on both is on our Kling AI pricing and Hailuo AI pricing pages, and if you would rather have both models in one account, Higgsfield pricing shows what a reseller charges for that.

What neither one gives you

Kling and Hailuo both sell footage. Neither writes the hook, the script or the voiceover, keeps one presenter's face consistent from shot to shot, lip syncs it, captions it, or exports it in 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9. That work is where most of the cost of a real ad sits, and it is billed in your own hours.

That is the part UGCGen does. You paste a product URL and get a finished talking-creator ad with a script, AI creator, lip sync, captions, five hook variations and every aspect ratio. Per second of video it costs far more than either model: Starter is $49 a month for 19 seconds of talking AI creator video, and Plus is $149 for 50 seconds of Google Veo video and 26 ad generations, and you can see example ads for your product before you pay. If you edit, buy clips. If you need the ad, see UGCGen pricing or compare every credit system in the category on our AI UGC pricing guide.
