Synthesia Pricing and Synthesia AI Pricing 2026 With the Cost of a Video Ad

Synthesia is priced per minute of video through shared credits, and per minute it is cheap. For an ad team the number that matters is a different one: its stock avatars are licensed for everything except paid promotion. Below is the full price list on both toggles, worked out per minute and per ad. Want a UGC ad you can actually put spend behind? Paste a product URL into the tool.

The short answer

Synthesia pricing is $0 for Basic, $29 a month for Starter and $89 for Pro, or $18 and $64 a month billed yearly, with Enterprise on a quote. Starter carries 1,250 credits a month and Pro 6,000, and Synthesia counts 100 credits per minute of video, so a minute costs between about $1.07 and $2.32. A 30 second video is well under $1.50 on any paid plan. The catch for advertisers is the licence: Synthesia's stock avatars may not appear in promoted, boosted or paid ads without its written consent, and purchases are non-refundable. If the job is a paid social ad, UGCGen builds one from a product URL, and our AI UGC pricing guide lines up every tool per ad.

Where these numbers come from

We opened synthesia.io/pricing in a browser on 8 October 2026 and read every card on the Monthly and Yearly toggles, the Pro credit slider, the API tab and the usage calculator, then the Acceptable Use Policy, the stock avatar video licence and the refund and billing policy in Synthesia's help center.

Per minute figures use the 100 credits per minute in Synthesia's own usage calculator and leave out the free 10 minute allowance every plan also gets. The slider discount is small: 48,000 credits cost 5 percent less per credit than 6,000. Paying yearly saves far more than buying volume.

Can I use Synthesia avatars in paid ads

Not the stock ones. Synthesia's Acceptable Use Policy prohibits "incorporating a Stock Avatar in content for promoted, boosted, or paid advertising on any social media platform or similar media, absent written express consent from Synthesia". The stock avatar video licence in its help center spells out the same thing line by line, and says breaking it leads to account deactivation.

That changes the price question. The plans above are cheap per minute because they are priced for training, onboarding and explainer video, which is what the licence allows. To run a Synthesia presenter behind ad spend you need either Synthesia's written consent or a Personal Avatar of a real person who agreed to it. Personal Avatars start on Pro, so the realistic entry price for paid social is $89 a month, or $64 yearly, plus a person willing to be filmed and licensed.

Organic posts are fine

The licence allows any use that does not include paid promotion, so a stock avatar explainer on your site, in a help article or posted organically to YouTube or Instagram is inside the rules. The line is the moment you boost it.

Several categories are out entirely

The same policy bans using Synthesia to promote age restricted goods: alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, firearms, gambling, dating services and more. A DTC brand in any of those cannot use it for ads with any avatar.

A Studio Avatar is a sunk cost

Synthesia's refund policy says Studio Avatars cannot be refunded once produced and deployed to your account. If you build a custom presenter for ads and the format does not convert, that spend is gone.

Synthesia cost per video

What a 30 second Synthesia video costs on each plan

At 100 credits a minute, a 30 second video is 50 credits. Dollar figures use each plan's own price per credit. Retakes spend credits too, so a team that tests three scripts per video pays for three.

Pro yearly120 on average$0.53No, Personal Avatar only
Pro 48,000960$0.70No, Personal Avatar only

Synthesia labels its calculator as an estimate: avatars, B-roll, motion graphics and dubbing each count differently, so a busy ad edit can cost more than 50 credits per 30 seconds.

Per minute, Synthesia is one of the cheapest avatar tools we have priced. The HeyGen pricing and D-ID pricing pages carry the same math for the two closest rivals. The difference for advertisers is what the minutes are allowed to do once you press boost.

The fine print

Refund, billing and API terms that change what Synthesia costs

These come from Synthesia's help center articles on refunds and on managing a plan, and from the API tab of the pricing page.

Non-refundable, even unused

All purchases are non-cancelable and non-refundable unless the contract says otherwise. Forgot to cancel before a renewal? The help center says no refund, even if the subscription was not used.

No discounts beyond yearly

Synthesia says it offers no general, student, non-profit or education pricing. The yearly toggle is the only lever, and it is a big one on Starter.

Renewal reminders are not guaranteed

Plans renew automatically at the same per-unit price. Synthesia advises checking the renewal date under Billing yourself, because a reminder email is not sent for every plan.

Top-ups exist, prices do not

You can buy extra credits from Billing and switch on automated top-up when the balance runs low. The top-up price is shown in the account, not on the public pricing page.

Upgrades now, downgrades later

An upgrade takes effect at once and is prorated. A downgrade starts at the next billing period. Self-serve cancellation covers Starter and Pro; Enterprise goes through the account team.

The API spends the same credits

Interactive Avatars cost $0.10 a minute for the avatar layer and $0.20 for the full stack. The Dubbing API is $0.40 a minute for voice, $0.80 with lip-sync. Both draw from your plan's credit balance.

Synthesia for ad teams

Is Synthesia worth it for ecommerce video ads

For training, onboarding and product explainers in many languages, Synthesia is excellent value and the pricing reflects it. For paid UGC ads it is the wrong tool twice over: the stock presenters are not licensed for paid promotion, and even where they are allowed, a studio presenter reads as corporate in a feed of people filming themselves on a phone. We cover the creative side in is Synthesia good for video ads.

Questions buyers actually ask

Synthesia pricing questions

How much does Synthesia cost?

Synthesia costs $0 for Basic, $29 a month for Starter and $89 for Pro, or $18 and $64 a month billed yearly. Starter carries 1,250 credits a month, about 12 minutes of video, and Pro 6,000, about 60 minutes. Pro's slider reaches 48,000 credits for $676 a month, and Enterprise is quoted.

Is Synthesia free?

There is a free Basic plan with 10 minutes of video, 3 survey responses and 500 credits a month. Its videos carry a Synthesia watermark and are shared by link, because downloads and logo removal start on Starter at $29 a month.

How much does Synthesia cost per minute?

Synthesia counts 100 credits per minute of video, which is about $2.32 a minute on Starter monthly, $1.48 on Pro monthly, $1.44 on Starter yearly and $1.07 on Pro yearly. Dubbing is 76 credits a minute. Avatars, B-roll and motion graphics can push real use above that.

Can I use Synthesia avatars in paid ads?

Not the stock avatars without Synthesia's written consent. The Acceptable Use Policy bars them from promoted, boosted or paid social ads, and the video licence lists paid Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, TV and programmatic ads as not allowed. A Personal Avatar follows your agreement with the person filmed.

Can I get a refund from Synthesia?

Generally no. Synthesia's policy is that purchases are non-cancelable and non-refundable unless the contract says otherwise, even when the plan went unused, and Studio Avatars cannot be refunded once produced. Cancel Starter or Pro from Billing before the renewal date to stop the next charge.

Does Synthesia offer discounts?

Only for paying yearly. Synthesia says it has no general, student, non-profit or education discounts. Yearly billing drops Starter from $29 to $18 a month and Pro from $89 to $64, which the pricing page markets as saving up to 4 months.

How much does the Synthesia API cost?

The API tab lists Interactive Avatars at $0.10 a minute for the avatar layer and $0.20 for the full stack, and dubbing at $0.40 a minute for voice or $0.80 with lip-sync. API use draws from the same credit balance as your subscription, and Enterprise adds volume discounts.
